The source material here is primarily the Holy Bible (KJV). I have relied solely on the scriptures for the concepts expressed herein. There is no doubt that I am the beneficiary of having read numerous philosophers and theologians in my time, but there is nothing of that material knowingly expressed here.
Forward
The legitimate question is why am I writing at all. I’m not a writer, never trained as a writer and have no published articles except those on this blog site. I’d say chances are quite slim that these ‘musings’ of mine will have any effect on anyone ever. So why bother? To be frank, writing helps me sort out the miasma of confusing ideas and notions running around in my head.
I make no claims as to inspiration by God or the Holy Spirit. I make no claims of spiritual authority. I state very simply that these are questions, posers and riddles over which I have pondered my whole life, and over which I write now in the hope of answering some to my own satisfaction.
For the past 20 years or so I have made numerous attempts to write an essay, which seeks to answer fundamental questions about the God’s existence. Specifically, the reasons He created mankind, where He created and why He created at all.
We will take these questions in reverse order starting with the question of why He created at all.
Eternity Past
It is difficult for us to process information in the absence of references to time. Cause and effect are time-based concepts and almost everything is an effect from some cause. The wind blows the grass moves, the dog barks and that starts the rest barking too.
With no factual, empirical evidence, knowledge or information about eternity past our faith demands that the LORD God to be First Cause. Since we can only speculate here, let us have it then.
Why Did God Create
One of the common philosophical and scientific questions pondered by our collective curiosity is the question of ‘Why does anything exist?’. And that’s a great question, but it has for the believer only one possible answer.
Why Does Anything Exist? Because God created it.
This is fundamentally the correct way to answer the question because scripture claims God as the sole cause of all that exists.
I believe the first cause was to create a place we call Heaven, followed closely by the beings He created to be present with Him there. The claim is substantiated in scripture by the testimony of angels who stated that they had come from God.
We have to some extent postulated what God’s first act was, but now we ask why.
Answers to this question often imply that God was somehow needy or lonely; and so, took it upon Himself to fix His problem by creating. There is another answer that implies that God created because of ego and the desire to “show off”. I disagree with these assertions.
I believe God created because HE WANTED, not needed.
Now you can attach whatever additional language comes after “He wanted”, and that might create a truthful statement. For example, my wife says, “God created because He wanted a relationship with His creation.” I think that is a fine and accurate, but only one of many possible reasons why God created.
Why did God create? Because He wanted to and that which comes from His mind, whether tangible or intangible, is ALL that is, has been, or ever can be.
Does God Have a Plan
It seems self-evident that the complexity of Creation is sufficient that its existence is contingent to both a plan and a Planner. And since the Word tells us that God knows the end from the beginning, we can comfort ourselves in the knowledge that nothing has been left to chance. God's plan is not past tense. It's not correct to say, "God had a plan for my life, but I messed it up!". It's totally correct to say, "God has a plan for my life!". His plan is present and eternal.
Being one who is somewhat lacking, when compared to an Intellect capable of creating everything, allows for this moment of brief reflection on how grossly inadequate we are to answer questions so large. Nevertheless, the LORD God in His infinite wisdom granted us just enough smarts to ask these questions.
I humbly speculate on these things. It is clearly certain that I know nothing.
