I was reading the John Lennox book, "Against the Flow", where I found the most remarkable quote;
There is no pathway to paradise that bypasses the problem of the dark side of human nature.
Two-thousand years beyond the resurrection of Jesus Christ and mankind has found no way to free himself from that very 'evil' nature that indwells us all. In fact, that very dark side of human nature has been described as the single most verifiable fact of human history. Empires have come and gone. Nations have risen to greatness only to fall again. Powerful leaders with visions of establishing the Kingdom of God on Earth have lived and died. Prophetic ministries, many of them apocalyptic, have garnered the attention of millions, and yet the dark side of human nature has cast its shadow on those empires, nations, leaders, ministries and prophets. Is there any hope that mankind can, or will overcome its inner darkness? Can we ever hope to pave a pathway to paradise? I think not! I don't believe man can be the solution because man, and the nature of men, is the problem! The last book in the Bible along with III Peter 3 and Zechariah 14, tell a story that we will all but destroy ourselves. Not a word of man altering the planet or his behavior to create Heaven on Earth.
Four times in the gospel of John (6:39, 40, 44 and 54) Jesus declares that He will raise believers to everlasting life on the 'Last Day'. Then again, in His conversation with Martha, sister of Lazarus (John 11:24), and just before He raises Lazarus from the dead, Martha states, and Jesus confirms the fact that there is a 'Last Day'. In the Book of Joel (2:31) we see what things shall occur before the 'Great and terrible Day of the Lord', which surely must be, at least in my mind, the Last Day.
You will find no answers in, humanism, atheism, false messiahs, political parties, social constructs or religious systems. The only answer for mankind, and the hope for paradise restored, is the Last Day, at which time the physical Kingdom of God shall replace the spiritual Kingdom of God on Earth, and where Jesus Christ shall reign for all eternity as Lord, Savior and Judge. No wonder the final prayer in God's Word is "...Even so, come, Lord Jesus"! (Revelation 22:20 KJV). My sentiment is the same... come Lord Jesus and save us from ourselves lest we perish!
